Dunoon Presents Argyll Rally

Welcome to a very wet Dunoon, but the rain didn't stop the adrenaline-fueled tarmac rally! This rally was for you if you're a fan of high-speed, precision driving and powerful engines' unmistakable roar. I had the pleasure of attending the Argyll Rally on Friday and Saturday. The spectator areas for stages 1/2, 4/5, 6, 7/11 & 8/12 did not disappoint, ensuring you felt like you were in the middle of the action but also ensuring everyone was kept safe.

This event is great for meeting people with the same passion, sharing stories, and building new friendships. I couldn't recommend it highly enough if you have never been to a Rally event.

I want to extend a huge thanks to the organisers, the competitors and especially the marshalls. The marshalls were helpful and pleasant at each spectator area.

Dunoon Stadium

This is an excellent part of the event, allowing the public to get nice and close to the rally cars as they prepare for the weekend's events. I enjoyed a walk around the stadium grounds, meeting the teams and chatting about their cars. The stadium had a real hussle and bussle when new cars and crews arrived throughout my time there.

Dunoon is also where Stages 1 & 2 took place, in the town centre, where the public could be close to the action as they flew through the closed street with many spectator areas throughout the stage.

Below are some images I captured of the cars at the stadium.

Car No. 75 - Orrin McDonnell & Clare Fraser

Car No. 86 - Mal Boyd & Brian Stubbs

Car No. 63 - Drew Gallagher & David Crosbie

Stage 1/2 - Dunoon Town Centre

This was the beginning of the night stages for Friday's run in the town centre of Dunoon, over a distance of 1.16 km. There was many spectator areas dott about the streets of Dunoon. For this stage I located myself on the fasted apart of the stage which was Tom - A - Mhoid Road on the final run to the finish line. This location was great as you could hear the cars coming flat out and see the headlights getting closer and closer until they had to brake sharply for the bale chicane at the end of the road.

After the first two stages, the results are Car No. 8 - Hugh Brunton & Drew Sturrock with a total time of 1:44 in the first place, followed by Car No. 2 - David Wright & Paula Swinscoe with a time of a total of 1:45 in second place & third place Car No. 9 - John Stone & Laura Connell with a total time of 1:47

Stage 7 - Glendarul

This was the first stage of the Saturday run, with a distance of 8.21 km. The spectator area was just south of the Glendarul Caravan Park, where it looked straight out onto the bale chicane before the drivers took off down the straight.

This location was challenging for the panning shots as the cars would pop out from the bushes and be away again in a blink of an eye before sharply braking for the bale chicane. But I was happy with the results I was able to get from this tough spot, and it was good practice for panning in difficult locations.

The three fastest cars of this stage were, Car No. 1 - Callum Black & Jack Morton with a time of 4:15, followed by Car No. 2 - David Wright & Paula Swinscoe with a time of 4:20 & Car No. 5 - Neil Roskell & Andrew Roughead & Car No. 15 - Rory Young & Allan Cathers with a tied time of 4:23.

After this stage, the standing is Car No. 1 - Callum Black & Jack Morton with a total time of 25:57, who reamin in first place, followed by Car No. 2 - David Wright & Paula Swinscoe with a time of a total of 26:13 in second place & third place Car No. 5 - Neil Roskell & Andrew Roughead with a total time of 26:31.

Weekends Favourite Image

My favourite image from the Argyll rally has to be from Stage 7 at Glendarul. Car No. 49 - Brian Watson & Sean Donnelly in Audi Quattro S1, after seeing this at the stadium, I was looking forward all Friday night, but sadly it didn't make it to stages 1 & 2. I was lucky enough to capture this on stage 7.

Below my favourite image is access to the full gallery from the Argyll Rally, please take a look and let me know your favourite image from the event.
